The most difficult thing about writing

Sometimes your sales numbers aren't what you expected, you probably imagined a grand future with thousands of people reading your book. At least that's what I'm striving for. The most difficult thing about writing is being consistent. When you've worked hard and released your book it's comforting to kick back and watch your sales number go up, but you need to keep going (this is as much an attempt for me to motivate myself as it is to motivate you). I've been thinking a whole lot about my next story. I've started writing a follow up to The Necromancer and the Old Gods , but as I havn't seen the sales numbers I expected for TNatOG I did put the follow up story on hold. I need to start writing again, but should I continue the follow up or go for another route? The first story I wrote was a short one, Gender: Artificial Intelligence . While it was fun writing it, I did have more fun writing The Necromancer and the Old Gods and believed it would sell bett...

Twitter up and running, goodreads on the way

Image
After running into problems while trying to promote my book The Necromancer and the Old Gods on Facebook and Instagram I switched my attention to Twitter and Goodreads . It's a lot easier to promote your book while remaining anonymous on these social media sites. I'm trying out a strategy which involves in trying to help people with their questions and problems instead of just trying to fill my feed with my own book. Of course I'll promote my book as well but people don't want to be force-fed advertisements. The great thing about helping people is that it feels great, and hopefully they'll end up check out my book. I'll try find interesting facts and tidbits to share with my followers and twitter. On Goodreads I'm trying to indirectly promote my book. Thus far I've created a page for Andrew Ben and when it is a day old I'll be able to include The Necromancer and the Old Gods in it's library. When that is done I'm planning to review book...

Facebook ebook page link to Instagram

After realizing that it's possible to create a Facebook page without any of my friends knowing about it I created a page for Andrew Ben and a page for The Necromancer and the Old Gods . I also managed to link the pages to my Instagram account and it seems that I'm able to make Instagram posts onto the Facebook pages I've created. That's good and all, but it doesn't matter if people can't see what I'm posting! I need to join groups to get some attention to my pages, but when I'm joining groups my Facebook friends will be able to see what groups I've joined. It's tough to promote something being completely anonymous. Instagram also looks to be a dead end, I tried to make a business account and it wanted to link it to my personal account. Goddamn it, another dead end. I'll let the Facebook pages stay up for now, I can probably link to them outside of Facebook anonymously and get some attention to my book. Options left to explore: Goodreads...

Facebook pen name? Almost impossible

Image
A great way of promoting your book is social media - a sentence I've read countless times during my search of how to successfully promote your own book. So how can people promote their book on for example Facebook anonymously? It turns out it's a arduous process to create an account for your pen name, in fact maybe you're not even allowed to do it. Read more about it in this article: http://www.thewriterschallenge.com/2015/05/using-author-pen-names-on-facebook-and.html?m=1 Unfortunately I didn't find the article before I created an account for my pen name using the book cover for "The Necromancer and the Old Gods" as a profile picture. I also and also created a page for my latest book that I wanted to use for marketing purposes. That's about when Facebook told me about suspicious activity on my account. They needed to confirm my identity and I hit a brick wall. As I haven't gathered any following on Facebook yet I've decided to abandon the i...

First book published!

Image
I just published my first book (let's not count  "Gender: Artificial Intelligence"  as it was more of a test). The Necromancer and the Old Gods is now available on  Amazon ,  Barnes and Noble ,  Google books  and on  a variety of other platforms . So how do I promote the book and get sales? I don't want people to know who I am or that I'm publishing books, and time-wise it feels like promoting a book takes as long time as writing the book! Anyway,  the first thing I did was to submit my book to reddit's self promotion page. No sales were made and I realized that I've probably priced my book too high. As I adjusted the pricing I'm now starting this blog. It'll help me promote my book, list ideas for further promotions and hopefully I'll receive some ideas from readers as well. Ideas: Facebook pen name page Join groups on Facebook Ad campaign via google? Ad campaign via facebook? Send out free copies to other bloggers? (This post w...
